What is double brokering?

Double brokering happens when the carrier you tendered a load to hands it to another carrier, without your knowledge, authorization or vetting. The load may still deliver, or it may not; either way you've lost visibility of who's actually hauling it, whether they're insured, and who gets paid. It's a rising source of fraud, cargo loss and payment disputes, and it erodes trust across the brokerage industry.

Most brokers rely on manual checks to catch it, which is time-consuming and inconsistent. CargoLabs is building double brokering protection to give brokers and carriers a way to prepare for double-brokered loads and limit the losses when they happen. Details, limits and availability will be announced at launch.

Common questions

What is double brokering?

When a carrier that accepted your load re-brokers it to another carrier without your authorization. You lose visibility of who is hauling the freight, whether they're insured, and who should be paid. It's a common vector for freight fraud.

Is CargoLabs double brokering protection available now?

Not yet. It's in development. Details, limits, pricing and availability will be announced at launch.

Who will be able to buy it?

It's being designed for freight brokers and 3PLs first, with carriers in mind as well. Get started with CargoLabs and your agent will let you know when it's available.

What can I do about double brokering today?

Vet carriers before tender, confirm the hauling carrier's identity and coverage on pickup, and require per-load certificates. CargoLabs' per-trip products let a carrier prove cargo and liability limits on the specific load instantly, which closes one of the gaps double brokers exploit.
